ABOUT
ESA has operated as a successful program since 2017 and has served a total of 100 students. Our program has a very high success rate and continues to keep in contact with all graduated students. Each year, our alumni who have graduated from our program return and share their experiences of learning and pursuing a career outside of our program.
EXCELLENCE SOUND ACADEMY
Excellence Sound Academy (ESA) is a recording academy based in Harlem which teaches inner city youth ages 13-21 the skills needed to progress in the Music Industry by preparing them for careers as producers, engineers, songwriters, and film producers. Through a combination of curriculum and hands-on experience, ESA’s goal is to empower our participant population with the knowledge and tools needed to gain employment and progress in the Music Industry. Our program has three levels participants progress through. Each level has a distinct focus youth in a specific area and gets them ready for the next level. Participants benefit from working in smaller groups, allowing ESA staff to spend more time mentoring each student. Throughout the entire experience, participants are taught about the importance of oral and written communication and the importance of community. Through established partnerships, participants are exposed to the industry to gain insight on potential opportunities and future careers. A culminating showcase at the end of each cycle allows participants to showcase the skills they learned. ESA is seeking a grant to expand our services to more youth in our community. With these funds, new equipment can be purchased, additional staff can be hired, and more youth can be given an opportunity to learn a skill which will lead to better oppurtunies.
OPREATIONS
Currently, 100 participants are receiving advanced education through ESA, three days a week from 6pm-10pm in Northern Manhattan and the Bronx. These services are provided to three groups of participants in recording studio setting specific to their focus of learning. Participants are taught and trained curriculum while being exposed to real-life scenarios. ESA has built several partnerships with technology providers such as Apple, Topo Chico, Youth Justice, Boys & Girls Club and as well as educators. We provide our participants access to online services and software tools in advanced learning through hands on experience. After undergoing a 11 month curriculum and studio training participants will participate in ESA’s annual concert focused on community uplifting. This ensemble will be a showcase of all participants work and receiving of certificates and awards for participation. ESA is very passionate about helping our youthful local creative community excel in the Music Entertainment Industry. We strive for our students to be successful in their career choice and continue to contribute to their creative community and become innovators in the global music community at large. ESA mission is to provide opportunities to a population with limited resources through ensuring that young adults gain the skills, experiences, and support that will empower them to reach their potential through careers and higher education.
OUR PROGRAM
Our Program provides 3 levels that our students participate in to master their respective fields of work.
LEVEL 1
Through a classroom setting, we expose our students to the basic industry standards and knowledge and begin to introduce them to the studios to acclimate them to the tools they are using.
LEVEL 2
Through a classroom setting, students will communicate professionally through oral and written means with musicians, engineers, and industry professionals.
LEVEL 3
After students have finished creating their musical pieces students will participate in a culminating showcase that displays the skills that they have learned.
